I have been having the time of my life these last 4 years retired now.
However, in retrospect there was never a dull moment for me in my last job as "Security Director" at a local manufacturing plant. My job there required a wide range of skills. One day I might have to climb out on the roof & through a window to open a door from the inside, while the next day you could see me sweeping up glass on the parking lot, picking up abandon safes alongside the road, watching out for unscrupulous activities like pornography being filmed on back loading dock (yes all these things happened.) Some days the excitement was just plain old directing traffic.
One of my favorite days was when I was asked to pick the lock on the CEO’s office when he had left his keys inside. I instead first checked all the many keys that I had to carried and found the key on my ring. That surprised the both of us. I normally only checked his door to make sure it was locked. I did not realize I actually had the key to his executive office!
Also, I was responsible for training a slew of officers & backup staff working for me.
I described the duties to them as: “You will be a jack of all trades, master of none,”
I was amused and yet slightly offended when one trainee offered a less than complimentary interpretation from his native Russian: “Equipped with knives all over, yet none are very sharp.”
Those were some interesting days!
My life these days can be as multifacited as farm hand, landscaper, mechanic, truck driver/washer, delivery driver, short order cook and chief dish washer... And the list goes on! 🤪
