The history of Christmas trees goes back to the symbolic use of evergreens in ancient Egypt and Rome and continues with the German tradition of candlelit Christmas trees first brought to America in the 1800s.
It was not until Thomas Edison's assistants came up with the idea of electric lights for Christmas trees did America enjoy the beautiful colors of lights.
Each year my Christmas trees have gotten smaller.
The children have grown and with the grandkids no longer are coming.
So... This year's tree is not up yet even the pre-decorated, lit, artificial tree.
However, I have fought myself to keep Christmas alive and well in my heart. Each day this season I take a moment to feel gratitude for all the good in my life, & feel gratitude for all the bad as well.
The bad and pain are great teachers, they lead us in the direction of our desires.
Christmas to me, is a time of reflection, the simple things of Christmases past that I still remember from my childhood, the joys, the hopes, the love felt from now deceased parents, spouse, friends, and relatives. It's all part of the great collage of our life. Something I just can't forget, Christmas gives me that pause to remember.
God Bless Everyone!
Nana
