On this day I am reminded of the song, My Little Valentine. It was originally written for the Broadway musical comedy BABES IN ARMS (1937)
The song was sung by a female character, Billie Smith, to her male love interest, Valentine LaMar.
Basically, the song’s lyric is saying: “You’re not handsome, your physique is lousy, you’re pretty dumb and you say stupid things… But don’t change, because I love you just the way you are.”
Here is the full lyric: _______________________________________
Behold the way our fine feathered friend His virtue doth parade Thou knowest not, my dim-witted friend The picture thou hast made Thy vacant brow, and thy tousled hair Conceal thy good intent Thou noble upright truthful sincere And slightly dopey gent
You're my funny valentine Sweet comic valentine You make me smile with my heart Your looks are laughable, un-photographable Yet, you're my favorite work of art
Is your figure less than Greek? Is your mouth a little weak? When you open it to speak, are you smart? But, don't change a hair for me Not if you care for me Stay little valentine, stay! Each day is Valentine's Day
I hope everyone has their own Little Valentine!
