4/15/2022 A Little More Local...

Between building a bed and air conditioning installation I was able to do a little more research on the Blountstown 444 Locomotive-

It sold in 1966 to Dr. Albert Folds of Marianna, who for a number of years, displayed it on the dairy farm of his father-in-law, Victor S. Bevis, along State Road 71, just south of Malone.

The locomotive was purchased in 1981 for the George Ranch Historical Park, Richmond, Texas, and was sold at some time prior to a 1991 inventory of the Park collections. The Park was initially going to have a larger focus that would have included the railroad. However, this plan never materialized. When the Fort Bend County Museum Association agreed to assist in managing the Park, a narrower focus for the site was created. As a result, a large portion of the collections was decommisioned and sold. Apparently, this included the 444 steam locomotive. The above photo is from Texas during it's time at the Park.

Note in this picture the Shipping Cables and the missing front wheel assembly which is not attached.

"According to its historical marker, this small 1911 locomotive was part of the Marianna and Blountstown Railroad, at 29 miles the shortest in Florida. It's been on display here, next to the old M and B rail bed, since 1989. The M and B was known to its passengers as the "Many Bumps."

That's The Story...
