6/23/2020 To Be Or Not To Be!

Updated: Jul 6, 2020

In the house yesterday was not such a light-hearted debate.

For the record there could be a problem.

You see my late husband mostly (99.9%) puts the seat/lid down. In fact, he closed the lid probably 90% more often than I did. So yes we were a happy little couple.

But here’s how things go:

Men stands to pee. Women sit down. Males raises the seat to pee (doesn’t have to, assuming good aim, but…c’mon).

I need it down to pee (yeah, I could pee without a seat, but…c’mon).

I say that it’s “appropriate” for men to at least put the seat down when their done.

Some men may counters that it’s “appropriate” for women to raise it when their done. (These men I might mention are not of the bright category because everybody knows if momma is not happy nobody is happy!)

I can see both sides to that argument, except… it’s called a “toilet seat” for a reason. It’s meant to be sat on, and in order for it to be used that way it has to be down. If it were meant to be up, it would be called something entirely different.

And, given that we have both a seat and a lid, putting them both down is nicer because it helps prevent the spread of nasty bacteria.

Not that it helps with the male, but my favorite argument comes from this point...

“Every single thing we do in our society is a complex dance of privilege and disempowerment — even using the bathroom. Putting down the toilet seat won't make you less masculine, it won't take up much of your valuable time, and it won't prevent you from earning $1 for every 82 cents a woman makes.

So don't be a dick about using your dick. Just put the damned seat down.”

As to the question of whether leaving it up on purpose or not is rude, I say yes; It’s Rude.

If it’s done forgetfully or distractedly, or because he was raised in a house full of boys who didn’t care about such things such that it’s an ingrained habit, it just is what it is—maybe it can be changed; at the very least, it can be made better.

But on purpose? Crazy! There’s nothing to call that but rude, and especially if he knows that it’s bothersome to someone he cares about. *And... Especially in the middle of the night and the female hates to illuminate the room in dread of a sleepless night afterwards. Nobody likes to wake themselves up with Grand Central Lights.

So Bottom Line Advice: Make Your Lady Happy... Nobody wants to fall into the toilet in the middle of the night. Everybody Will Be Happier!

Rant Over...
