Yesterday, after giving ourselves a reprieve from declutter duty, Jim and I took a ride on our iron horses to my family's stomping grounds.
Windsor, Missouri is the crossroad where the Katy Trail and the Rock Island Spur intersect and the Northern Gateway to Truman Lake.
My parents met and began dating there in 1940. Our family was definately rooted in that area.
My grandfather operated multiple industries which included strip mining near Windsor. To which my father and his family relocated their home there after my grandfather's death in 1938.
My older brother & sister were both born there and the extended relatives still live there to this day.
My most memorable memories were at my uncle's Drive-In Theater. He started his operation by going to Missouri towns playing outdoor movies on a makeshift screen from their truck and a byplane that he flew in for 13 years beginning in 1947.
In 1961, he and his wife took the plunge with a more traditional structure called the Windsor Drive-In launching onq May 5, 1961. The theatre would change names to the Hiway 2 Drive-In.
With their death the property past to one of their extended family members where a car lot, cafe and now the "Side Track Cafe" resides.
It was a good day down Memory Lane...
