Another place to experience...
Just yonder, in the rolling hills of the Missouri Ozarks stands a legacy to the passing of time. Barkerville Seed Farm & Pioneer Village.
I love to shop for seeds, see their trial gardens, learn about seed growing, enjoy their animals and experience the authentic pioneer village. Icing on the cake is to eat lunch at their Vegan restaurant that features a daily sample of the vegetables grown & prepared right there on the farm.
The restaurant is only open 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m Monday through Friday.
However, you will find the village is open Sunday through Friday from 8am until 5pm.
The homestead act in the mid-1800s encouraged the Rippee family to move west and settle
what is reputed to be the longest-lasting homestead in Missouri. The family raised many varieties of produce, birds and animals, and were quite skilled in the crafts of the region. They traded with the Osage Indians and cared for soldiers during the Civil War in their hand-hewn log-cabin.
Bakersville is situated on the original Rippee farm. The Baker Creek Seed Store now stands
where the family’s market garden once was. In 2007, was the beginning of the historic town. Besides the Baker Creek Seed Store, they also have a speaker barn, of course the restaurant, an old-time mercantile, herbal apothecary, a natural bakery, garden museum and blacksmith shop, two music barns, a Western jail, a native rock oven, a windmill, a seed warehouses, and they also have many breeds of historic poultry and livestock. Definitely a great day of enjoyment for those that make the journey there.
May You Be Blessed Along The Road Of Life...
