7/4/2020 Tidbits About The 4th Of July...

Some of the following tidbits are for your entertainment...

It might make for an iconic painting, but

that famous image of all the Founding Fathers and Continental Congress huddled together, presenting the first draft of the Declaration of Independence for a July 4, 1776 signing isn't quite how things really went down.

No such scene, with all the delegates present, ever occurred at Philadelphia.

In fact nothing was actually signed on the fourth but just the day that the was documents were formally dated, finalized, and adopted by the Continental Congress, which had officially voted for independence on July 2 (the day John Adams thought we should celebrate ). John Hancock and Charles Thomson signed early printed copies of the Declaration to be given to military officers and various political committees, but the bulk of the other 54 men signed an official engrossed (finalized and in larger print) copy in August 2, with others following at a later date. Hancock signed (boldly) his name again on the updated version.

Hot dogs are an American traditional food. Americans consume about 150 million hot dogs while celebrating Independence Day. According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, that amount of dogs can stretch from Washington D.C. to Los Angeles more than five times.

In 2019 it was predicted Americans would spend around $6.7 billion on tasty treats to celebrate the Fourth of July. This included food and other cookout expenses, averaging out to about $73 per person participating in a barbecue, outdoor cookout, or picnic.

Americans spend around $1 billion on beer for their Fourth celebrations, and more than $560 million on wine.

Did you know that three presidents died on Fourth of July. Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both die in 1826 and James Monroe died in 1831.

Now not to be too morbid I will mention that President Calvin Coolidge was born on July 4,1872.

I wish everyone near and far a safe and happy July 4th!
