Dauphin Island was our destination even though the temperature dipped down into the upper 40's. With some warm breakfast, hot coffee, and all bundled like babies we were able to scoot on down the road.
A Gulf Coast island known for stretches of white sand & Public Beach.
Also, at the entrance to Mobile Bay, sits a 19th-century Fort Gaines. The original cannons and a blacksmith shop still is visible today.
Even migrating birds can be seen in the forest, dunes and swamp of the Audubon Bird Sanctuary. The Dauphin Island Sea Lab's Estuarium has aquariums and a living marsh boardwalk.
We missed the ferry by several months but enjoyed see the area and plan to make another trip in warmer days.
