Yesterday I was in Springfield, MO to get my monthly blood work completed for November when I decided to treat myself with a Golden Corral Senior Lunch Buffet.
As I approached the cashier line, a couple behind me told the cashier to ring up two buffets and also include include mine on their ticket.
I replied to them that they didn't need to do that but Thank You.
The woman replied they thought I looked like I need a smile today!
I admitted I was dragging today with traveling and back to the grindstone chores and I would gladly pay it forward and with a smile for someone else.
To which they responded Thank You.
The pay it forward definition is quite simple: when someone does a kind deed for another, instead of returning the favor to them, a good deed is, in turn, done for another person.
If one decides to partake in this, they should do so with the expectation of not receiving anything in return.
Most will ask how they can repay the kindness; and in this instance, one should tell them it is not required but appreciated if they do an act of kindness for another.
Remember every act is beneficial no matter how small it may seem.
Paying it forward allows generosity to flow throughout communities.
The concept of paying it forward has been popularized from the 1999 book and 2000 film of the same name written by Catherine Ryan Hyde; however, the roots of this movement are much older. In 317 B.C., an ancient Greek named Menander wrote a play titled Dyskolos, or in English, The Grouch, The Curmudgeon, or The Misanthrope.
This play was lost until 1952, when an intact papyrus containing the play was found in Egypt.
The story displays various levels of philanthropy amongst its characters and shows the transformation of man through acts of goodness.
In 1916, an author named Lily Hardy wrote a book called The Garden of Delight.
Within its covers, the saying, "You don't pay love back; you pay it forward" appeared, thus coining the term pay it forward.
In my idea the "pay it forward idea" is a grand idea!
It spreads. The beauty in this concept is that when one person does something nice for another, not only are both people happy, but also society benefits because it spreads more good deeds around.
This simple act can improve your life and make the world a better place as this beautiful concept spreads literally throughout the world.
Have A Wonderful Day & Remember To Show Your Kindness To Others!
