New 1950’s inspired diner can be found on HWY 57 in Vancleave, MS
To be exact it's along HWY 57 and Jim Ramsay Rd. Renovations began under way for a new spot in Vancleave which was going back to the basics when it comes to food service.
Named after their herd bull, Luckies Diner planned on returning the classic diner experience to Vancleave, and the owners Byren Ferguson and his wife took some inspiration from Dairy Dream, a diner which occupied the same spot decades ago.
"They were trying to go back to that 50’s style diner, something that the community has always leaned on that particular building when Mr. Dick and Miss Wanda owned it back in the 50's.
What they were trying to do was to bring that morale back,” according to Byren Ferguson.
Over the years, different restaurants such as Lottaburger, Fat Heads, and most recently Potbellies have occupied the location, but Byren planned on returning to a more simple dining experience.
“Their vision was to be a little bit different than all of them before and just kind of going back to plain... Hamburgers, French Fries, Milkshakes, Ice Cream and a Chicken Sandwich.
They added breakfast and stayed open through dinner to be able to support the kids on Friday nights and their families after events.”
There was even plans for a place to boil up crawfish in the shed behind the diner. When it came to who they employed, the answer was just down the street.
“The high school was directly behind and the middle school as well so close.
The more kids that they could bring from the school and work, the more that they could impart their work ethic and other things into them to help them and teach them how to work and how to work with people.”
Luckies Diner opened January 2025.
This diner gal is glad she stopped for a chilli dog, fries and apple Al mode.
