We often go to Quitman, Arkansas but this time we roared down the road to another Quitman on another prescriped day of sun and fresh air. First stop was the Confederate Veterans Cemetery in "Quitman, MS."
Then our bellies lead us to Squeals and Wheels BBQ.
A good place to try the Pulled Pork Platter with all the usual yummy sides of baked beans, fried okra, Mac & Cheese and of course we could not miss the daily desserts including pecan pie or cheese cakes. Unfortunately their peach cobbler was only available every other day. 😞
Then stopped at the site of the Battle of McLeod's Mill.
In November 1864, Union Brig. Gen. John Davidson led an expedition from Baton Rouge toward the Mobile & Ohio R.R. On December 10, part of his force crossed the Chickasawhay River and met two Confederate cavalry regiments at McLeods Mill.
It was a good day of history lessons & scooting into the wind...
