3/27/2020 Plans Don't Always Workout...

Our first mistake was deciding to try an adventure to self isolate in the wind with my Honda Trike. After sitting for three months it was dead from the turn of the key.

It cranked right up with a jump from the car so onward we rode towards Pomme de Terre Lake. However, within 4 miles we had to stop for three cars/trucks that were blocking the Route PP and Highway 83 intersection. As we pulled up I was still on a learning curve remembering the opposite shifting pattern of the Honda Trike.

Long Story short... it died and would not start. Jim had the battery cables but could not get his seat off to get to the Harley battery. The only option we could think of was for him to ride home to swap out for his Goldwing and return to jump start with it. This proved to be a failure too. The trike would not start. We suspected not enough amps to fully crank. It was another trip back to the house for Jim to get the car to try jump once again with it.

All this time I am observing the increased traffic traveling on the county road which was surprising. Normally if you see five cars at once it is a traffic miracle.

I did have three people stop and roll down their window to ask if I needed help, which was warming to know even in this pandemic there are still compassionate people.

Jim arrive back with the car and the Trike cranked right off again. This time I made sure I had the backwards shift pattern mastered. We returned home to park the car and get both bikes on the road again. I left mine running while Jim went to get his Harley again.

As we started to pull out of the drive Jim cut too sharp and let the bike lean too much at the low speed... he dropped it. He was ok but found it too heavy to pick up in the soft gravel drive. Between the two of us it was still too heavy to lift so we used one advantage of a tree close by to ratchet with our bike strap.

It worked perfectly so I went back to my running bike to check it. It had been almost 3/4 hours since I left it. I had the forethought to ride it up to the garage incase it did not start when I turned it off.

Nope not a peep of a grind which told me two things. 1. My bike's alternator was working.

2. The battery was not holding a charge which was confirmed by the voltmeter.

Something definitely was telling us to just go inside and forget this day's excursion.

Plus my experience has remined me many times that some days it is best just to listen to fate.

We showered, dress in lounging attire, with refreshed spirit and proceeded to relax in front of the tv. Best motto was "tomorrow will be another day."

Take Care and Be Safe... Until Tomorrow!
