When asked, Christians often give a lot of reasons for not going to church. Some believe the church to be expendable (take it or leave it). Many Christians simply say, “I don't go because there are hypocrites in the church.” And others say they have a hard time finding a good church close to home.
I'll have to confess that I've always felt uneasy with Church attendance and the pretentious atmosphere of many gatherings.
Now these ramblings of mine is not meaning to get to preaching but I've felt like I've Come Home. Home was found on a little winding rural road.
It was in an old church on a hill.
As you go through the in door you'll find even on a good day to be only 15 fellow Christ followers.
You know I have found a common thread in my many years that many churches demand attendance.
However, for me I have tried to be grounded and remember that the Church is not beneficial because it is the Church, it is beneficial because we become immersed in a community of support, encouragement, and ministry.
Matthew 18:20 is one of the best Bible verses about going to church...
“For where two or three gather in my name, there I am with them.”
While scripture does not command Christians to attend church, it does speak powerfully about the blessing of the church community.
When we make church attendance necessary for the Christian life, or for our salvation, we twist the community of faith into a superficial body of earning and merit.
We mistakenly assume that there is something that we must do to earn our place in God’s kingdom. Scripture, however, is resolute in affirming that the is nothing that we do to earn God’s love or favor into Heaven... It is only by his Grace.
These last months for me it has felt like coming home!
However, I did realized there would be a down side because... I was not physically home for months with my Florida Sunshine Journey 2022-23 and may be gone at other times.
Alas, I found I'm covered on the road anyway...
Somewhat like the song "My Church"
I'll Wing It & It goes like this...
I'll admit I've cussed on a Sunday
I may have cheated & lied to myself and others
I've fallen down from grace
A few too many times
But I find holy redemption
When I put that bike on the road
No windows to roll down, just wind beneath my "Wing"
I'll turn up the music and roll
Can I get a hallelujah
Can I get an amen
Feels like the Holy Ghost running through me
When I play those highways songs
I find my soul revival
Singing every single verse
Yeah I guess that's my Church for now
When Hank brings the sermon
And Cash leads the choir
It gets my cold cold heart burning
Hotter than a ring of fire
When this wonderful world gets heavy
And I need to find my escape
I just keep the wheels rolling, music blazing
'Til my sins wash away
Can I get a hallelujah
Can I get an amen
Feels like the Holy Ghost running through me
When I play that highway music
I find my soul revival
Singing every single verse
Yeah I guess that's my Church for on the road...
Hallelujah And Amen
Today however, the wonderful news is:
I have always believed and practiced my faith but had never found a church that I was comfortable with over the years.
Today I am making my official confession of faith and I am being baptized.
I have received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior” “ I will obey and serve Him for the rest of my life.
Can I get an Amen?
