6/15/2024 Early Alarms Of The Third Kind...

Yesterday morning about 2:00 am I awoke to a pitch black house.

Storm thunder was rumbling and the alarm clock on my small three draw chest across from the foot of my bed was also dark, no illumination.

Since it was still wee hours I turned over and tried to go back to sleep but my inquisitive mind had other ideas.

I started to question why do I still have this alarm clock.

I have not used it years. The alarm clock I use is actually my phone which is on the night stand be

side me.

It brought to my mind that the last 100 years have brought about a slew of new devices and gadgets.

That means we've also said goodbye to some items that were once staples in many our lives.

For instance there is no backing up your data on floppies or CDs any longer.

We're officially in the era of the "cloud," where we save all of our data to online storage services like Box, Dropbox, iCloud, Google Drive, Carbonite, and Microsoft's SkyDrive.

There is no longer film in cameras. Everything is digital now & most people just use their phone cameras.

However, I'm a collector so I still have a camera collection from 1940's until now.

We no longer have dialup internet. It has become obsolete.

I am trying desperately to get a Starlink system installed as of this post.

It's unbelievable faster data for Internet, phone & etc.

Calling "411"

If we want to find out the locations of the closest 50 Starbucks in a 4-block radius?

Forget wasting time talking to an all-knowing automated voice, and thank your lucky stars for Google Maps, Bing, Foursquare, and Yelp.

How about DVD's? The massive popularity of Netflix and Video-On-Demand has made it virtually unnecessary to go to an actual store to rent movies. Stores like Blockbuster no longer exists.

My home collection of DVD rarely get watched any longer.

Anyway you get my drift on all the things that have changed in my lifetime and if you're like me, the reluctance to throw things out.

Now I have a better understanding of my grandmother and her home that included many old things that were obsolete in her time.

That's how my mind works and when it starts I'm wide awake. 😅

By the time I did finally snoozed for a short couple of hours I still awoke to a dark house.

So I clothed myself and walked out to my car to get breakfast and boom the light came back on. Oh well McDonald's was still on the agenda! 😂

Hope your day starts off with less excitement...

Nana
