The family oil rig...
My Grandfather Kramer had several oil wells in Kansas. He sold heating oil to the local Missouri & Kansas communities. He even had a heating stove he designed and made to give to them if they bought their oil from him.
Also, he refined his own gasoline & diesel for his own personal & companies use.
Long Story Short... was that Standard Oil tried to buy him out but he refused to sell.
My Grandmother was not too happy about that decision when his wells went dry three years later.
Later reading of the practices back in the day was: that if competition could not be bought then other method might be employed... for instance obtain adjoining lands and drill latterly.
I have no idea if this was the case however, I just always wondered what happened.
No matter he was an industrious man who continued to find other means and ways. He went into strip mining around Windsor, Missouri with a huge monster platform digger crane.
