7/6/2022 The Oil Changes...

An oil change is one of the simplest and most common types of maintenance that most people will ever have done – or do themselves. The concept is simple enough: drain the old oil, fill with new oil, enjoy! So what can possibly go wrong?

Well sometimes S@#t happens.

The deceptively easy nature of an oil change means that people can quickly get the sense that they can do it while on auto-pilot, and that’s how mistakes often happen.

Today was not Jim's day or mine by default. The first blunder was asking Jim to use his muscle on wrenching the Goldwings's drain plug off. It appears that he did not notice my washer that is supposedly needed on the drain plug for Honda Goldwings . Yep the washer fell to the bottom of the oil pan unbeknownst to me. (No oil is leaking at all at this point so I am hesitant to redo the wrenching.)

Then, after draining his Harley Davidson's old oil, he forgot to secure the Harley Davidson's drain plug – he proceeded to pouring a quart of oil into the bottomless depths of an engine that could never be filled. Luckily he did catch his mistake after one quart.

I regrettably left the garage for a few minutes to obviously not catch the next feat of rediculousness.

In his haste to complete his final oil change process he backed over and busted "my" new slimline Oil Pan he had been using. Oil is all over the driveway concrete in front of my garage door. Of course I had purchased the pan at a rediculous price at a Harley Davidson shop. All I can say is: Kitty-Kitty bring over your litter pan, please!

Not Happy Cyclists Today!
