Summer started officially on June 21st, but much of the world has already experienced brutal heat. In the last two months, extreme heat waves have struck many parts of the US, Europe and China, threatening lives, increasing the risk of wildfires, and testing the limits of electric grids.
In Minnesota, temperatures soared above 100° buckling streets and shattering car windows.
In Hawaii drought, combined with a super storm, where they had a hurricane offshore several hundred miles, still generating large winds caused fires that have killed around 100 people.
Thousands of cattle perished in Kansas. Temperatures in France, reached nearly 110°F and set or tied more than 200 monthly heat records across the country.
What do crazy people like me do to continue to ride?
I found sometimes something as simple as a wet bandana around your neck or under your helmet can do wonders. Often I soak my T-shirt & that helps a lot. If I ride in high temperatures & humidity frequently, I wear my “hydration vest” lined with crystals that absorb and hold water to keep me cool while I ride.
Experts are predicting that in the years to come, heat waves like these are likely to get worse, not better. So while this summer might be unbearably hot, it may be one of the coolest summers for decades to come. 🙄
Stay Cool This Summer & Enjoy The Next Few Days!
