Beautiful day to ride the Ozarks!
Shopping today has never been easier – usually we head to our favorite brick and mortar shop or just go online. However, not so long ago, general stores were the place to go whenever we needed something. We’re quite fortunate to still have several classic general stores around the state.
Ha-Bob's has been here for decades. Their wooden floor bit the dust a few years ago so now it a new & improved concrete floor. Still has most everything that the rural area needs.
Eureka Springs was our next stop....
It is secluded and peaceful with winding mountainside streets, Eureka Springs has flair like no other town. In fact, the National Trust for Historic Preservation named Eureka Springs as one of its "Dozen Distinctive Destinations." The streets of this north Arkansas town are lined with extraordinary Victorian homes hugging cliff sides, and its whole town is on National Historical Register.
We were lucky to get a few more miles to see a local group of musicians practicing their routine!
Then it was on to Lampe, MO for us to catch some fantastic cooking!
The Fillin' Station's story is In Memory of H. Norman Ackerson
May 2, 1930–January 4, 1999
You see after serving in the Korean war, H. Norman Ackerson owned and operated a Sinclair Service Station in Kansas City. It was there he met his future wife, Verna Mae. To honor their Dad, Cindy and David opened ‘The Fillin’ Station’ in 2008 to honor his memory. Locals as well as tourists like us visiting Branson are very glad they did! The family owned and operated restaurant has a reputation for fine food and great service. Let me say, Once you try them, you’ll want to come back! 😋
Another great day in the neighborhood!
