9/22/2023 Checkin Out Casper's...

Casper's is a Springfield restaurant with more than 100 years of service which reopened this year.

Of course this Foodie thought it was time to check it out...

Famous for its chili, Casper’s has been a local staple since 1909, making it one of Springfield's oldest restaurants.

The business got its start when the restaurant's namesake Casper Lederer started the combination fruit stand/chili restaurant in downtown Springfield.

Eventually it had been at two different locations before settling on the Hut on Walnut Street over three decades ago.

Over that time, both locals and visitors have developed a nostalgia for the restaurant that is hard to match.

Now Casper’s has reopened at its newest location in the 900 block of South Glenstone in the former Anton’s Coffee Shop building.

Stepping into Casper’s a few days ago was like stepping back in time.

Warm and rustic decor, adorned with vintage signage, nostalgic photos and masks immerses diners in a journey through the past.

Bright primary colors of the interior create a friendly and inviting ambiance, making visitors feel right at home.

The restaurant’s dedicated staff, many of whom have been with Casper’s for years, warmly welcome customers, treating them like a part of the Casper’s family.

Casper’s menu remains a testament to timeless appeal, offering classic American comfort food with a touch of innovation. The show’s star is the juicy, mouthwatering hamburgers.

I'm told crafted from the finest locally-sourced beef and served on fluffy buns. Complementing the burgers is the world-famous original recipe chili, a beloved favorite featured in publications like USA Today.

Guests at Casper’s can indulge in old-fashioned shakes and malts, alongside a selection of sides like onion rings, fried pickles and fried mushrooms. Chili cheese fries, chicken tenders, and original coneys continue to delight our taste buds.

In an ever-changing world, Casper’s remains an unwavering beacon of tradition in Springfield. With its timeless appeal, warm hospitality, and commitment to quality, this iconic restaurant continues to leave an indelible mark on the hearts and palates of all that walk through their doors.

I will say that the only dissatisfaction I had was the slip in memory of my waitress when sending me out of the establishment with & to my surprise a "To Go" Unsweet Tea.

Several miles down the road as I surprisingly took a big gulp, I instantly found myself swerving into the nearest parking area to clean up the mess of myself & dumping of the entire cup.

Now anyone who knows me will attest to my total distaste for TEA.

This is the one thing that I will not drink and I've always been known to gag/hurl from ingesting this hideous drink.

Well with a change of clothes... all was well in my little world again.

(Yes, of course I always carry a change of clothes with me... a lesson learned years ago. Plus a benefit when I get one of my spontaneous ideas of travel.)

Oh Well... Just another day in the Neighborhood!
