9/8/2022 Wake Up It's A Beautiful Morning šŸŒ„

This whole week we've been waking up to find it is some of the most beautiful mornings of 2022!

The sun was shining for our eyes. Birds were singing their little tune. Our motorcycles were ready to purred to our favorite breakfast choices. šŸ³šŸ„“šŸ„ž

Then it would be always zoom - zoom up the road. Yesterday the morning inspired a ride to "The Amish Trading Post" in Osceola, MO.

The town of Osceola is located on the Osage River. The land that actually became the town of Osceola was inhabited by the tribe of Osage Native Americans, also known as NiuKonska, Native Americans who gave the river its name. NiuKonska means "Little Ones of the Middle Waters". Two treaties, in 1808 and 1825, signed by the Osage and the U.S. government gave up all the tribe's land in Missouri. With the way cleared for non-native settlers, more people began to arrive in the St. Clair County area in the mid-1830s.

In 1839, the town was name for Chief Osceola. Osceola was considered the head of navigation on the Osage River. This brought prosperity to the community in the 1850's, with steamboats and wagon trains using Osceola as a trading center. As Osceola continued to prosper, it became engrossed in the slavery issue.

The town was the site of the September 1861 Sacking of Osceola by Jayhawkers (anti-slavery patrols) in which the town was burned and its courthouse looted.

The event inspired the 1976 Clint Eastwood film "The Outlaw Josey Wales." Prior to the attack the town had a population of around 2,500. Fewer than 200 residents remained after the event and the population has never again approached those numbers. Today the population is somewhere around 1,235.

However, today's adventure was meandering to the Amish Trading Post. Today it serves as the connection to the Amish communities in Missouri. It's a center for the local Amish to sell their fresh, local, handmade and homemade items. Some of their most popular products are their seasonal jams and jellies, pickles, and baked goods, as well as unique handmade furniture and household items, such as cutting boards and noodle cutters. I hear that new items arrive weekly, and lucky for us it is always exciting to see what's new!

Also, we can verify it's a taste of rural Missouri with their handmade, freshly butchered beef... Fantastic Burgers & Chilli! šŸ˜‹

It was definitely a "Great Day In The Neighborhood!"
