Yesterday's ride back to the middle of the Florida Panhandle brought me to places along Florida highway 98 like Flint Rock Wildlife Management with beautiful scenic landscape and historical significance with a lighthouse... The St. Marks Light is the second-oldest light station in Florida. It is located on the east side of the mouth of the St. Marks River, on Apalachee Bay.
Also, it needs to be said to take your bug spray and lunch as their are no places to eat. Definitely beautiful trails and the wildlife is abundant... especially birds.
Then of course just off of 98 and along State Route 267 there was Wakulla Springs, Florida...
The area has scientific interest. It all began at the spring in 1850, when Sarah Smith reported seeing the bones of an ancient mastodon on the bottom. Since that time, scientists have identified the remains of at least nine other extinct mammals that date to the last glacial peroid, deposited as far as 1,200 feet (360 m) back into a cave. Today, at a depth of about 190 feet (58 m), the fossilized remains of mastodons are in full view along with other fossils.
It can be found at the cross roads of 61 and State Road 267 and it is protected in the Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park.
It was a cool chilly morning but showed some very interesting views and places I definitely want to explore further on a warmer day. 😊
A Great Day In The Neighborhood...
