Nothing much exciting today but my
monthly PT/INR blood work test.
I feel so blessed to be here everyday and the blood draw to determine my blood clotting factors is just a minor inconvenience.
You see ever since September 2017 when I had DVT, which actually resulted in a Pulmonary Embolism, I now have had to take a daily dose of Warfarin.
(DVT) is Deep Vein Thrombosis which is a blood clot in a vein located deep within your body, usually in the leg.
A (PE) pulmonary embolism happens when the traveling blood clots (emboli) become lodged in the blood vessels of the lung.
Yes this is a life-threatening condition,
The PT/INR test checks to see if a medicine that prevents blood clots is working the way it should.
The prothrombin time (PT) test measures how long it takes for a clot to form in a blood sample. An INR (international normalized ratio) is a type of calculation based on PT test results.
Prothrombin is a protein made by the liver. It is one of several substances known as clotting (coagulation) factors. When you get a cut or other injury that causes bleeding, your clotting factors work together to form a blood clot.
How fast your blood clots depends on the amount of clotting factors in your blood and whether they're working correctly.
If your blood clots too slowly, you may bleed too much after an injury. If your blood clots too fast, dangerous clots may form in your arteries or veins.
At any rate I'm a walking time bomb just trying to enjoy family, friend and life.
God Bless You & Yours!
