You get a birthday... for some it's one day... Every year, once a year, you celebrate your birthday, but if you're like me it is hard to confine those celebrations to one day.
I have been told that this is how it works.
A birthday is a singularly self-involved holiday, one from which nobody benefits but you.
Friends and family are happy you were born — sure. I’ll take that for granted. But after a certain point, birthdays may be redundant to them.
So I have come up with some tolerable workarounds:
1. My one day doesn’t have to be on my actual birthday if it’s a weekday or a major holiday or no one will be in town. Then I'm allowed to make a substitution.
Then, on my actual birthday, I'm still allowed to low-key observation... a personal holiday.
2. I'm may post a flattering (well in my case probably an unflattering one) photo captioned with my age on Facebook.
3. Buy myself a little treat.
4. Go to dinner with my friends or family to enjoy.
I just can’t be mad if people wish me ‘Happy birthday’ on the day of my party or celebration instead of the actual day.
Take it from someone whose birthday is always "on" or "right around" Thanksgiving: Nobody has remembered what day my actual birthday is for my whole life.
When I make a huge, prolonged deal of my birthday, I may be setting myself up for annual disappointment and it may seem childish but I love to celebrate my life!
Anyhoo... I'm going to have a fabulous day or days...
It's My Birthday Celebration complete with Spaghetti Factory & Fish Fry & a favorite... Carrot Cake! 🎉
With my age my policy is: No candles will be lit to prevent any engulfing fires. 🤣
